A few weeks ago, we discussed a case in which a Florida woman was taken into custody after allegedly trying to sell her baby boy for $7,000. After she was taken into police custody, two men -- the child's legal father and his biological father -- were both vying for custody of the boy.

Since that report, the 8-month-old boy's legal father was awarded temporary custody of the young boy. He was also given custody of the woman's two other children -- a 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy. This was not the only development in the case, however. Last week, the mother was awarded visitation time with the children by a Miami judge.

According to a ruling that took place last Tuesday, the 30-year-old Miami woman will be permitted to see her children three times a week. She was arrested and charged with adoption violation last month. She has since been released from jail after posting $25,000 bond. She reportedly receives monthly child support payments of $650 but does not have a job. Hearings are scheduled for Jan. 6 and Jan. 10.

While this is clearly a unique situation, it certainly underscores the fact that when it comes to child custody decisions, the best interests of the child should always be the main factor.

Child custody and visitation matters can be difficult for many parents. Each parent may want a different arrangement, but ultimately the child's best interests are most important. For those facing family law issues, like child custody, speaking to an experienced Florida attorney may be helpful.
